Support me on my trip to Honduras!
Hey Everybody~
Thanks for visiting my site! Let me tell you a little bit about the group I am supporting. USC HEAL International is a student-run service organization focusing on health issues in low-income areas of Los Angeles and Copan Ruinas, Honduras. We work directly with Life to Life Honduras, a community-based organization in Copan. Our goal there is to help develop the area's health resources into a comprehensive healthcare system, and to do that, we collect materials for existing health clinics and hold regular health training and education workshops for community health workers, students and expecting mothers. To serve as a base for these programs, we are also working to build a clinic in Agua Caliente, a village about 10km into the mountains from Copan, which means that people often have to hike at least 3 hours to see a doctor. Work here is crucial, because the area we serve has some of the highest maternal mortality and HIV/AIDS rates in all of Central America. To support our colleagues at Life to Life, HEAL raises funds, collects material donations, and networks with Los Angeles organizations that have similar missions. Finally, to help USC students truly understand the impact Life to Life and HEAL have on the community in Copan, we take an annual student trip there. And it's this trip that I'm now asking you to help me fundraise for. If you are interested in learning more about or contributing to HEAL and/or Life to Life, please feel free to send an email to healintl@usc.edu or visit www-scf.usc.edu/~healintl or www.lifetolifehonduras.org. Thanks again for stopping by, take a look around and let me know if you have any questions. Take care! Jen |
